One person is dead after a freight train struck a semitrailer Monday morning at a rail yard in Fuller Park, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

CFD said the semitrailer was stopped on the tracks at a Norfolk Southern rail yard at 350 West Garfield Boulevard when the train hit it. Officials confirmed that one person died in the crash.

Connor Spielmaker, a spokesperson for Norfolk Southern, issued a statement after the accident involving a truck driver at their facility.

“Our thoughts are with their family and colleagues during this difficult time,” he said. “We are working with first responders at the scene and will fully investigate the incident.”
