LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Golden Retriever Rescue of Southwest Florida hosted its 13th annual GoldenFest, a huge annual pet fair and fundraiser at the Shell Factory & Nature Park in North Fort Myers Sunday morning.
Hundreds of dogs were in attendance, including well-behaved leashed dogs of all breeds from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Nov. 12.
“You’re going to see hundreds of Golden Retrievers today,” Dennis Guyitt, founding member of the organization, said. “Outside Scotland, you’re not going to see more goldens in one place!”
The event included vendors, a huge raffle of pet-related demos, and live music.
The event also helps raise money for the rescue.
“This is our annual event. It’s a huge fundraiser for us. It’s important for us to be able to take care of the medical care of the dogs that we take in. This constitutes at least half of what we need,” said Guyitt.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office had K9 demonstrations, training demos, and a robot dog.
The event also featured the North Fort Myers Fire Control District with equipment and vehicles.
“It’s a great event. The community loves it, and so do we, and the shell factory has been phenomenally supportive of us, too,” said Guyitt.
