A seaplane capsized off Southport, North Carolina, at about 8:30 a.m. Friday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Two people on the plane were rescued and did not have injuries, according to Coast Guard Senior Chief Logan Adkisson.

People nearby saw the plane take on water after landing and went to help, according to the Coast Guard. It happened at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, outside of the shipping channel, the Coast Guard said.

The plane flipped in the water near Battery Island, an uninhabited island between Southport and Bald Head Island, south of Wilmington.

Adkisson said a boat towing service would tow the plane back to port.
