Tropical Storm Arlene continues moving through the Gulf of Mexico, with the maximum sustained wind still at 40 mph at the 5 AM Saturday advisory from the National Hurricane Center. The storm is moving to the south-southeast at 9 mph. Arlene is forecast to weaken to a tropical depression later today.
That storm will stay well offshore of Southwest Florida, but will enhance the seabreeze-driven rain and storms that develop during the day. We’re forecasting 60% of the region to see rain or a thunderstorm afternoon. There will be isolated morning activity, especially near the beaches, but the bulk of the rain will be in the afternoon and evening. Some may linger into the late evening, much like the past few nights.
While Arlene will not directly impact Southwest Florida, we are very early in the season! Download the “ABC7 WX” app and stay ahead of all of the tropical systems still to come this season. Of course, the MOST up to the minute forecast is on ABC7 News on your television. Look for WZVN on your channel guide.
