The Will County coroner’s office has identified an off-duty Chicago police officer killed Saturday in a two-vehicle crash in Tinley Park as 34-year-old Timothy Siwula.

He and the driver of a second vehicle were both taken early Saturday morning to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox following the crash at the intersection of La Grange Road and 179th Street, according to Pat Carr, Tinley Park village manager.

Siwula, hired as a Chicago officer Sept. 30, 2022, was pronounced dead at 3:10 a.m. Saturday and the coroner’s office said that a final cause and manner of death would be determined following a police investigation, autopsy and toxicological reports.

The driver of the second vehicle was later transferred to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

Carr said that details of the accident were not available Monday, and accident reconstruction investigators were still at work to determine the cause of the crash.

A GoFundMe page established to help pay funeral expenses for the officer said that he was assigned to the Chicago Police Department’s 9th District.
