The Israeli military and Palestinian officials are reporting heavy losses as fighting in Gaza intensifies, with Israel under increased international pressure to move quickly to achieve war aims that remain out of reach for now.

Tuesday was one of the deadliest days for Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip since the war began two months ago. Ten soldiers were killed in battle in the northern part of the enclave, most of them under the age of 25, according to the Israeli military.
