Many other San Diego restaurants, bars, chefs and bartenders also earned national and even international awards this year. Here are a few.
Early this year, Jon Bautista, the former chef at Kingfisher Cocktail Bar & Eatery in Golden Hill, was named a semifinalist in the 2023 James Beard Awards for Best Chef: California. Bautista has since taken over the kitchen at The Fishery in Pacific Beach.
Michelin three-star Addison rose to the category of sixth place on La Liste’s annual ranking of the top 1,000 restaurants in the world.
Michelin-starred Jeune et Jolie in Carlsbad and the 30-seat East Village speakeasy Youngblood were both named to OpenTable’s list of America’s top 100 restaurants.
Youngblood, which is one of two hidden bars inside CH Projects’ Neighborhood restaurant, was also named No. 49 on The World’s Best 2023 list of North America’s 50 Best Bars.
Izola Bakery in East Village was recently named the fifth most-tagged bakery in America by users of the TikTok app. That honor follows an even bigger award last year when it was named the No. 1 in the U.S. by Yelp app users. Izola is currently closed for renovation but will reopen in early 2024.
USA Today named San Diego’s An’s Gelato shop No. 2 in its 2023 Best Ice Cream Shop in America list in July. First-place honors went to Virginia’s legendary Island Creamery.
Oceana Coastal Kitchen and The Taco Stand were named to TripAdvisor’s 2023 Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Restaurant Awards.
Raised By Wolves, CH Projects’ retail shop, bar and speakeasy at Westfield UTC, won awards for its international spirits collection and for its bar mentor, Chris Patino, at the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation’s 17th annual Spirited Awards.
And four affordably priced neighborhood restaurants — Beyer Deli, Gonzo! Ramen, Baba Kabob and Mike’s Red Tacos — were named to Yelp’s 2023 list of America’s “top 100 places to eat”.
