GRAHAM, N.C. — The two largest public safety departments in Graham partnered to raise money for The Salvation Army this month.

What You Need To Know

  • Graham police and firefighters competed to raise money for The Salvation Army of Alamance County
  • The Graham Police Department raised $548
  • The Graham Fire Department raised $482

The Graham Police Department and Graham Fire Department worked the nonprofit’s kettle at Food Lion on Main Street.

The police raised $548, and the fire department raised $482 for a total of $1,030.

Both departments say they were happy to be able to give back.

“Community service is what we’re all about, so giving them back to the community is one of our greatest missions,” said Fire Department Captain of Operations and Training Jason Moore.

Kettle donations are one of the organization’s largest fundraisers of the year.

Organizers say the money raised stays in the community it is collected in and provides programs for children, seniors and low-income households.

“It stays with the community of Alamance County and it helps people with our social services food pantry and Boys and Girls Club as well as our church, so it stays here and we try to help as many people as we can,“ said Tobias Gilliam, corps mission associate with The Salvation Army of Alamance County.
