“This is our fond farewell to 2023,” Chris says of Saturday Night Fever cover

Just in time for any New Year’s Eve dance parties, Christine and the Queens have dropped their rendition of the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive.”

The rendition — which arrives days after Barry Gibb was awarded Kennedy Center Honors — hues closely to the Saturday Night Fever classic, with the “Chris Version” putting their own reverbed flourishes on the track. The cover was accompanied by a visual directed by Chris and filmed in Venice:

“Art heals! Brings us all together again and again! Art is the experience of humanity, the joyful boat of the imagination, the fireside where we reinvent together – childhood,” Chris said in an accompanying statement.

“My masters use art as a magical refuge and I, in turn, take them along masked, free of themselves into the sovereign realm of their own dreams. Made in a few days, in an emergency with fabulous friends, generous strangers, the inhabitants of Venice the beautiful, this is our fond farewell to 2023.”

Christine and the Queens have been toying with the Bee Gees song onstage since May 2023, when the band covered the track (and infused it with the Gibb-penned “Night Fever”) during a performance in Cannes:

2023 saw the release of Christine and the Queens’ epic triple-LP Paranoia, Angels, True Love, which followed 2022’s Redcar les adorables étoiles (prologue). The latest album featured guests like Madonna, Shake 070, and Mike Dean.
