A Royal Tern was admitted to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) after being found on the beach unable to fly on Tuesday, Dec. 26.
According to a Facebook post, the bird was showing signs of red tide poisoning.
Staff gave the bird an IV catheter to administer IVLE fluids to bind the toxin in its blood.
The Tern’s feet were also wrapped to treat inflammation/lesions on the skin of the feet.
CROW states this is common in sick or injured shorebirds that stay in one place for a long period of time.
