Mob hits Compton bakery after street takeover
A car plowed through the front of a Compton bakery, allowing the mob to rush in and loot the store. Compton residents say they’re concerned, as violent street takeovers seem to be more common.
COMPTON, Calif. – A street takeover in Compton turned violent after a vehicle repeatedly slammed into the door of a bakery.
It happened around 3:30 a.m. at Ruben’s Bakery located at 2701 N. Santa Fe Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Officials said during a street takeover, about 100 people reportedly broke into the bakery after a white car repeatedly backed into the front door, so they could get inside.
Security video from inside shows a mob of people looting the popular business which has been open for 48 years.

A mob looted Ruben’s Bakery in Compton a car intentionally drove through the front door. People in the area say unruly street takeovers are a constant issue.

When deputies arrived, they saw multiple people fleeing from the scene.
No arrests have been made. Deputies believe the white Kia Soul may have been used during a pursuit in the Carson area earlier that day.
Compton residents say street takeovers are getting out of control.
“Law enforcement should have stopped them before it got out of control,” one resident told FOX 11.
For resident Cynthia Enomorado, it’s personal.
“I lost my brother, a civil engineer, to this crowd. We need to have a sense of urgency to jump on this a little faster,” Enomorado said.
Raymond Olivares and his fiancée, third grade teacher Claudia Rivas Cruz, were crossing the street last February when a vehicle slammed into them. Olivares died, and his fiancée was badly injured. The suspect was fleeing from a street takeover.
A city councilmember told FOX 11’s Laura Diaz that the Council would be working to get the bakery a new register so they can reopen as soon as possible.
