The Cape Coral Police Department (CCPD) responded to a disturbance that led to the death of a 73-year-old man Sunday.

According to CCPD, it was reported that a man and woman were arguing. The man was drunk and he began destroying the woman’s property, which led to the 911 call around 5:37 p.m.

When officers arrived at 1411 Northeast 5th Lane, they were confronted by Roland Henry Halle, a 73-year-old man who lives at the home.

He was armed with a gun.

CCPD officers attempted to de-escalate the situation.

Halle become agitated and resisted efforts by deputies.

Officials say his demeanor became heightened. Halle started to act aggressively and picked up the handgun challenging officers, according to CCPD.

Officers shot Halle several times and proceeded to perform life-saving measures. Ultimately, Halle was pronounced dead.

It was also stated that Halle did not shoot the officers, however, when he showed the gun, they reacted.

Both officers that were involved were placed on administrative leave, which CCPD states is common practice.

It was noted in a press conference held by CCPD that officers have been to this location for similar arguments between Halle and his roommate at least twice the previous night.

CCPD states the body cam footage was reviewed, and it was confirmed by Cape Coral Police Chief Anthony Sizemore that the officers performed under extreme circumstances. Sizemore stated the officers acted exactly as they were trained.

Officials say this incident was contained inside the home.
