For the second time in three years, the Paul VI Panthers conquered Springfield, Mo. On Saturday night, Paul VI beat California’s St. John Bosco to win the prestigious Bass Pro Tournament of Champions.
Playing in the talent-packed event for a sixth time, the Panthers made the most of Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, often a bustling time for high school hoops.
Other weekend tournaments that attracted local talent included the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass., the MLK Classic at the St. James, the Dream Classic at Bowie State, the Hoops for Harmony event in York, Pa., and the HoopBuzz Challenge in Prince George’s County. In a hectic and competitive week, eight of the teams featured in our previous rankings lost at least one contest. When the dust settled, only a handful of teams — including the top-ranked Panthers — remained in the same place.
