The mid point of June is the time to celebrate Juneteenth, and festivals, cultural events, block parties and more will take place this weekend ahead of its official date on Monday.

Shakespeare under the stars: ‘Twelfth Night’: The Old Globe’s outdoor Shakespeare season has begun with William Shakespeare’s comedy about twin siblings, separated in a shipwreck, who both find unexpected love in ancient Illyria. 8 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays and July 3 (no performance July 4). “The Wedding Singer”: Moonlight Stage Productions presents this musical stage adaptation of the Adam Sandler romantic comedy about a wedding singer falling in love with one of his engaged clients. 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. San Diego County Fair: This year’s fair got under way on June 7 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds for a 21-day run that concludes July 4. The theme is Get Out There, which celebrates San Diego County’s parks, trails, ecosystems, wildlife and outdoor activities. There are also livestock shows, animal encounters, rides, concerts, a speakeasy, merchandise vendors, culture and musical festivals and more. Runs through July 4. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays, except July 3 and 4. Gates open at 11 a.m. daily and close at 10 p.m., except on Fridays and Saturdays, when the gates close at 11 p.m. Del Mar Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar. Street Level Vol 1: City Music This new concert series kicks off Friday, showcasing dancers, spoken word artists, musicians and other performers from across the region. Food and drinks will be available from a food truck. 6 to 9 p.m. Fridays. Switchfoot Bro-Am Beach Fest: This annual family-friendly beach party features live concerts with Grammy Award-winning rock band Switchfoot and other artists, as well as all-day surf contests, food and retail vendors, green initiatives and more. Juneteenth Multicultural Celebration: This annual event is hosted by the North San Diego County National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). It brings together Black storytellers, vendors, food, jazz music, a youth zone with face painting, games and other entertainment throughout the day. There will also be informational booths, including one from the North County African American Women’s Association. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 17. Civic Center Plaza, 300 N. Coast Highway, Oceanside. Cooper Family Foundation Juneteenth Art & Cultural Celebration: This event, started by San Diego businessman and community leader Sidney Cooper Sr., is continued by his family and is one of the largest such events in the region. There will be live music and entertainment, an educational program, food trucks, live gospel and jazz, health and wellness resources, a history wall, a kids zone and more. Juneteenth Celebration at The Old Globe: This outdoor event is a collaboration with the George L. Stevens Senior Center. San Diego Lao Food Festival: This two-day event showcases the diverse cuisine of Laos. Food stalls will be selling a range of traditional Laotian fare, from savory to sweet. The festival also features live music, cultural performances, cooking demos and cooking competitions. Catamaran kicks off luau season: The Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa on Mission Bay has launched it summerlong Sunset Luaus on the Bay season. The events include an all-you-can-eat Hawaiian buffet featuring kalua roast pig, huli huli chicken, roast salmon, vegetables, fried rice, children’s menu and dessert display. The evening also includes live music, hula dancing and fiery torch dancing by Pride of Polynesia.
