It has now been three consecutive weeks with the same 20 teams in the rankings — albeit in different order — leaving the hierarchy of the area’s top teams seemingly well-established. Bishop McNamara, Sidwell Friends and Woodgrove still haven’t lost to local opponents. St. John’s and Bishop Ireton continue to separate themselves in the second rung of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference. Osbourn Park and Hammond continue to rise after once being entirely outside the top 20.
With playoff pictures coming into focus, most eyes this week will be on No. 16 Pallotti and No. 20 St. Mary’s (Annapolis). Both have slipped in recent weeks but have the talent to make a run in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A conference playoffs, which conclude with the championship game Sunday.
Other enticing local matchups ahead include three eye-catching Monday games — Bishop McNamara at Bishop Ireton, South River at Severna Park and Potomac School at Bullis — as well as Paul VI at St. John’s on Friday.
