FORT MYERS, Fla. — Community members are calling for change following a deadly crash on Top Golf Way in Fort Myers.

Christina Lewis works at TopGolf, just up the road from where 5 teens died in a crash overnight Sunday. The teens’ names are Breanna Coleman, Eric Paul, Jackson Eyre, Amanda Ferguson and Jesus Salinas.

Lewis created a petition to have safety measures put in place on that stretch of road, she says to prevent future tragedies.

“I feel like if there was some kind of warning there that they would have at least slowed down or at least had a chance to slow down,” Lewis said.

In the petition that has nearly 2,000 signatures, people are asking for warning road signs and guardrails to be put up along the curve.

“I would like to give them some sort of justice for this,” said Lewis.

Lewis said it’s hard to go to work now and see this memorial marking where 5 young teens died.

“I can’t sleep; I can’t just not do anything about this,” said Lewis.

FDOT officials confirm it should be the local municipality to decide to install such measures, and they would just likely follow FDOT’s Roadway Design Offices “Greenbook” or Manual of Uniform Minimum Standards for Design.

ABC7 reached out to the city to ask if they will consider implementing some of these safety measures, however, we have not heard back yet.
