Swimmer extracted from water near Marine Street Beach
Lifeguards pulled a man from the water near Marine Street Beach in La Jolla the afternoon of June 22, and a woman who said she is his daughter posted on social media that he did not survive.
San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokeswoman Monica Muñoz told the La Jolla Light that at 1:07 p.m., lifeguards saw a man who needed assistance about 75 yards offshore near the 300 block of Sea Lane.
“Lifeguards brought him to shore and called for medics as they started CPR,” Muñoz said. “The man was described as in his mid-60s. Lifeguards and firefighters performed CPR and other medical aid for about 15 minutes.”
The man was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, said Muñoz, who did not comment about his condition.
A woman wrote on social media that the man was her father and that he got “stuck in a kelp bed. Our cousin was able to get him out with two lifeguards … but it was too late. It’s been a horrible couple of days for our family.”
The woman could not immediately be reached for further comment.
