The Kiwanis Club of Pacific Beach presented four $1,500 scholarships during Mission Bay High School’s Awards Ceremony on May 28 to graduating seniors.
The recipients were Ellie Bauer, Jadyn Ganss, Ella Megliola and Annika Wester.
Bauer, who was the class salutatorian, has been a leader in team sports and multiple clubs on- and off-campus. She will be majoring in applied mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Ganss has been a leader while balancing academics, community service and a part-time job. Her leadership included founding the First Gen Scholars Club. She plans to double major in biology and political science at Williams College.
Megliola has displayed exceptional diversity in her leadership roles while also earning high grades. She plans to major in marine biology at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Wester has held numerous leadership roles on the volleyball team and during her community service. She will be a biology major at the University of California, Davis.
The Kiwanis Club has presented the scholarships to Mission Bay seniors since the high school opened in 1956. Recipients are selected based on four criteria: academic standing, demonstrated leadership skills, good character and community involvement.
The club holds a weekly breakfast meeting at 7:30 a.m. each Thursday at The Broken Yolk on Garnet Ave. Anyone interested in learning more about the club is welcome to attend.
