A 20-year-old active duty Marine riding a motorcycle was killed Sunday when he collided with a vehicle near a gas station, Oceanside police said.
The collision occurred shortly after 7:50 p.m. near the intersection of Douglas Drive and North River Road, police said. A driver in a Volkswagen Passat was making a left turn from northbound Douglas into a gas station when a motorcyclist heading south on Douglas hit the right front fender of the car, said police Sgt. Clint Bussey.
The man was ejected from his motorcycle and died before he could be taken to a hospital. The name of the man was not released pending notification of his family.
The driver of the car, a 64-year-old Carlsbad woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the collision.
