Del Mar racing season begins July 20

The Del Mar racetrack 2024 season kicks off July 20 and runs through Sept. 8. Post time: Opening Day (July 20) 2 p.m.; Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays 2 p.m. July 21-Aug. 29, 1:30 p.m. Aug. 31-Sept. 8; Fridays 4 p.m. July 26-Aug. 9, 3 p.m. Aug. 16, 23, 30 & Sept. 6; Labor Day (Sept. 2) 1:30 p.m. General Admission: Daily-$8, Diamond Club-$4, Opening Day-SOLD OUT; free for 17 and younger and active military. Opening Day after parties outside the track

The Official After Pony Party will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa, 5921 Valencia Circle, in Rancho Santa Fe. The $325 general admission cost includes entry, a welcome cocktail, an “endless” buffet, a cash bar, dancing and music by DJ Murphi Kennedy. Local business women to hold benefit event for Hospice of the North Coast

Julez Bryant, a fine custom jeweler on Cedros in Solana Beach, and Realtor Janet Hoover of Coastal Premier Properties in Del Mar, long-time friends with a passion for helping others, are holding an event to benefit Hospice of the North Coast on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at Bryant’s Flagship Store in Solana Beach (located at 108 South Cedros Ave.).Bryant, a two-time cancer survivor, and Hoover, whose sister succumbed to ovarian cancer, chose to support this very important organization in a unique way, according to a news release.Bryant, the winner of the prestigious couture people’s choice award for the piece named “The Ghost Rider”, will be raffling off a select piece from her collection (value not to exceed $7,000).Raffle tickets will be sold during the event to benefit Hospice of the North Coast.“The Diver” which followed “The Ghost Rider” was inspired by Hoover’s sister who in 1979 joined the Navy and despite adversity became one of the first female deep sea salvage divers in the U.S.This fine piece and others will be on display during the event, which will include refreshments and nibbles. Del Mar Foundation 2024 Summer Twilight Concert series

The 2024 Del Mar Foundation 2024 Summer Twilight Concert series held at Powerhouse Park in Del Mar continues on July 23 and Aug. 13, beginning at 6 p.m. with Zel’s Opening Act, followed at 7 p.m. with the main attraction. The Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch’s annual free live music series Summer and Songs are currently being held on Tuesday nights through Aug. 29 from 6-9 p.m. in the village square courtyard. San Diego’s Summer Movies in the Park series is coming to Pacific Highlands Ranch Park. On Saturday, July 27, catch a screening of “Migration,” a story about a group of ducks trying to convince their overprotective father to go on the vacation of a lifetime.Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs, blankets and favorite movie snacks to enjoy the show—concessions will not be available for sale.The movie begins at 7 p.m. and pre-show activities will include inflatable jumpers and crafts. Elder Fraud Seminar at the Encinitas Senior Center

An event will be held on Tuesday, July 30, to learn about common elder fraud schemes and what law enforcement is doing to protect seniors and their families. The event will be presented by a FBI intelligence analyst and held at 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Encinitas Community & Senior Center. The event is made possible by The Country Friends in partnership with the FBI San Diego Elder Justice Task Force, the FBI San Diego Citizens Academy Alumni Association, and the San Diego Seniors Community Foundation’s Senior Center Coalition. RSF Republican Women Federation to hold next meeting in August

City of Encinitas Call for Artists

Professional and emerging artists are invited to apply for juried exhibitions in Encinitas. Artists who create two- and three-dimensional artwork and live or work in San Diego County may apply. There are no fees to apply and no commissions on any artwork sales. Exhibitions will be on view for approximately four months in 2025 and include an artist reception with Art Night Encinitas. Only complete applications submitted by the deadline will be considered. Artists creating two-and three-dimensional works in a variety of media are welcome to apply for a solo exhibition that will be held at one of two art spaces in Encinitas. Arts organizations are also encouraged to apply for a group show representing two-and three-dimensional works created by visual artists in their membership. CaddyHack Golf Festival in August

The eighth annual CaddyHack Golf Festival benefiting Boys to Men Mentoring is set for Aug. 5 at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club, 15150 San Dieguito Road. There will be 20 live performances and bands throughout the course from rock ‘n’ roll classics and reggae vibes to stand-up comedians and magicians.. Dog Days of Summer with pet expo

The 19th annual Cardiff Dog Days of Summer is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 21 at Encinitas Community Park, 425 Santa Fe Drive. The event includes dog contests, dog-related vendors, rescue groups, pet adoption agencies, an agility course and a swift paws lure course along with live music, food trucks, a libation lounge and opportunity drawings. The San Diego Fire Department will give rescue demonstrations. The Rancho Coastal Humane Society hosts “Rescue Row” featuring several rescue groups with adoptable pups; proceeds benefits the Rancho Coastal Humane Society. The city of Encinitas’ Pet Health Expo will offer pet services including microchipping sponsored by the San Diego Humane Society. Guild holds annual basket-making class

The Misti Washington Gourd & Basket Guild holds its annual Basket Class Day featuring basket- and gourd-making classes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 4 at the San Dieguito Heritage Museum at Heritage Ranch, 450 Quail Gardens Drive. The classes range from making a recycled newspaper basket and gourd embellished with pine needles to a twined basket over a bottle, a basket embellished with Dracaena Draco and a woven door basket. The cost of classes, which are open to the community, is $30-$60, which includes the registration fee. The guild typically meets on the first Sunday of each month at the San Dieguito Heritage Museum. Village Church hosts Christmas in July to benefit refugees

The Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe needs new and gently used items for its Christmas in July event that will help refugee families newly arrived in the United States. Items will be collected on Sunday, July 28 between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. in the church parking lot at 6225 Paseo Delicias, Rancho Santa Fe. Clothing, shoes, toys, furniture and kitchen wares are among the items needed to help support the ongoing work of the Alliance for African Assistance and its Safari Seconds Thrift Store in San Diego. The group is currently assisting Ukrainian and Afghan refugees adapting to new homes in America. Financial donations are also welcome, and receipts will be provided. Urgent call for blood donations to support Texas

As Hurricane Beryl wreaked havoc on the state of Texas recently with storm surges, winds and flooding, Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center endured power losses and city-wide infrastructure damage, impacting their ability to support hospital patients in need.San Diego Blood Bank has been asked to send blood to the affected area and the Blood Bank is calling on the community to help by scheduling an appointment to donate blood as soon as possible. All types are urgently needed, especially O positive and O negative.These donations are essential to maintaining a stable and adequate supply of blood in the coming days and can help save lives and ensure patient needs continue to be met.To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in general good health. Encinitas Historical Society to hold downtown walk

The next Encinitas historical downtown walk will be held on Saturday, July 20, starting at 10 a.m. The Encinitas Historical Society now offers this fun educational tour with more varied walking paths on the third Saturday of every month.On July 20, the tour will concentrate on the south end of the historic Coast Highway. Next month they will cover the historic north end. This alternating of the route ensures that participants can cover the distance in a slower, more leisurely, and personal fashion.Meet at the 1883 One-Room Schoolhouse located at 390 West “F” Street in Encinitas at 10 a.m. There is available street parking nearby. The Encinitas Historical Society has implemented a suggested donation of $10 per person. The Historical Society is an all-volunteer organization with tax exempt status and accepts cash, checks, and credit/debit cards. Children and dogs are always free! Summer concerts at SeaWorld

SeaWorld San Diego’s Summer Spectacular Concert Series continues at 6 p.m. July 20 at 500 SeaWorld Drive. The concert lineup includes Grammy-nominated and chart-topping performers.
