UPDATE: NORTH PORT, Fla. — A 6-year-old boy who was bitten by a dog in a North Port home has died from his injuries.
According to the North Port Police Department (NPPD), the child was flown to Tampa General Hospital after being stabilized at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He had extensive traumatic injuries including the upper torso area, the report said.
The boy died from his severe injuries at Tampa General.
The dog is being held at Sarasota County Animal Services. The dog is a 3-year-old pit bull mix, according to police. At this time, NPPD is unaware of any past incidents involving the animal’s behavior.
NPPD said no charges have been filed at this time.
The incident is an active investigation.
ORIGINAL STORY: NORTH PORT, Fla. — A 6-year-old child was bitten by a dog and flown to Sarasota Memorial Hospital as a trauma alert Tuesday morning.
North Port Police Department responded to a home around 10:30 a.m.
According to North Port Police, the child and the dog lived in the same home.
Sarasota County Animal Services responded to assist in the handling of the animal.
The attack is currently under investigation. No information on the current condition of the child has been reported.
