After months of uncertainty and recent outcry from local swimmers, Vancouver’s Kitsilano Pool is reopening Wednesday.

Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim and Vancouver Park Board Chair Brennan Bastyovansky are holding a media availability at 8 a.m. to officially reopen one of the city’s most beloved outdoor pools.

The pool was closed by the city after major repairs were found to be needed after a major storm in 2021 damaged the outdoor pool.

Closed periodically since that storm, the pool was expected to be closed for the entire summer as a major leak was found. The city says there are plans to build an entirely new facility in the future.

The pool first opened in 1931.
