The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club has announced the events that will be held as the summer season comes to and end in the beginning of September, including events geared toward college students and a family fun day.
Saturday, Aug. 31 – Some of the country’s top horses will compete in the Pacific Classic, which has a $1 million purse, with the winner securing a spot in the Breeders’ Cup in Del Mar later this fall.Sunday, Sept. 1 – Family Fun Day, to be held from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., will have attractions including inflatable obstacle courses and face painters.Saturday, Sept. 7 – College students with a valid student identification can get free racetrack admission and grandstand seating.Sunday, Sept. 8 – Participants in a Red Cross Blood Drive can learn their blood type, get a mini physical and learn some of their other health metrics.Thursdays – Diamond Club members will get free Stretch Run admission, free program and other benefits.Fridays – Happy hours on Fridays will take place up until two hours after the first post, excluding Turf Club restaurant and bar. At Turf Club Fridays, $125 tickets will include admission in the members only spectator area and other benefits.Saturdays and Sundays – Daybreak at Del Mar on Saturdays and Sundays will include breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. with complimentary coffee, access to morning workouts and insights from racing broadcaster Michelle Yu. There is no admission price and parking is free. Every Sunday, Taste of the Turf Club will provide a three-course brunch and other benefits for $150 per person.
The summer season this year started this year on July 20 and wraps up on Sept. 8. First post daily is 2 p.m. until Aug. 31, then will be 1:30 p.m., the thoroughbred club announced. First post on Fridays is 4 p.m., except for Aug. 30 and Sept. 6 when it will be 3 p.m.
