Here’s how San Diego athletes fared in Saturday’s Olympics – San Diego Union-Tribune

A daily look at athletes from San Diego County competing at this summer’s Olympics:

Saturday’s results

Canoe: San Diego resident Nevin Harrison came away with silver in the C-1 200 meters flatwater event, edged by Canada’s Katie Vincent by one-hundredth of a second.

Soccer: The U.S. women, with San Diego Wave players Naomi Girma and Jaedyn Shaw, beat Brazil 1-0 at Parc des Princes to claim their first gold medal since 2012.

Sport climbing: Brooke Raboutou (USD) won silver in the boulder and lead event behind Slovenia’s Janja Garnbret.

Sunday’s action

Basketball: Kelsey Plum (La Jolla Country Day) and the U.S. women play host France in the final at Bercy Arena at 6:30 a.m. PDT.

Track cycling: Jennifer Valente (Cathedral Catholic High School) goes for her fifth Olympic medal in the Omnium, a multi-race event that she won in Tokyo in 2021.

Water polo: Alex Bowen (Santana High School) and the U.S. men play Hungary for the bronze, which would be their first medal since 2008.
