EXCLUSIVE: Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Krysta Rodriguez (Halston) and Alan Cumming (The Traitors) have signed on to star in Lunch Hour, a new indie comedy from director Larry Guterman (Cats & Dogs) and Winter State Entertainment.
Delving into the anatomy of an affair, Lunch Hour watches as a soup-loving married man meets the soup-loving married woman of his dreams. Thereafter, both throw caution to the wind and engage in a messy affair for the ages.
Oren Safdie wrote the script and serves as executive producer. Hamid and Camille Torabpour produced for Winter State.
“I am thrilled to work with Oren, Hamid, Camille and the Winterstate team to bring this whip-smart comedy, driven by nuanced and complex comic performances, to the screen,” Guterman told Deadline. “I fell in love with the script and I knew that I had to be part of the special project.”
Added the Torabpours, “Oren is a wonderful writer, and watching his words come to life with Larry’s incredible direction and the brilliant work of our amazing cast of Thomas, Krista and Alan has been a tremendous experience. Camille and I are happy to have brought a project like this to Minnesota!!”
Emmy-nominated for his starring role on HBO comedy Silicon Valley, Middleditch’s recent credits include the Netflix comedy series Middleditch & Schwartz, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and CBS’s sitcom B Positive from Marco Pennette and Chuck Lorre. He makes his Broadway debut in Eureka Day this November.
Rodriguez portrayed Liza Minnelli in Netflix’s limited series Halston from executive producer Ryan Murphy and has also been seen in Broadway productions like Into the Woods, First Date, The Addams Family and Spring Awakening.
A two-time Tony winner, Cumming is currently Emmy-nominated for his hosting of Peacock’s reality phenom The Traitors, which he also exec produces. Also known for his role of Eli Gold on CBS’s The Good Wife and spin-off The Good Fight, his other recent projects include Apple TV+’s Schmigadoon! and the documentary My Old School. He recently concluded touring for his acclaimed solo concert show, Alan Cumming is Not Acting His Age.
After co-directing DreamWorks’ 1998 animated comedy Antz, which earned over $171M worldwide, Guterman went on to direct Warner Bros’ hit family comedy Cats & Dogs and New Line’s Son of the Mask. More recently, he exec produced Atom Egoyan’s Remember starring Christopher Plummer.
Winter State Entertainment has recently produced documentaries on Pro Football Hall of Famer Willie Roaf (ROAF), MLB icons Jim “Kitty” Kaat (Kitty to Cooperstown) and Tommy John (Tommy John: The Bionic Man), Pittsburgh Steeler Mel Blount (Mel Blount: Whatever It Takes), boxer Tommy Hearns (The Hitman: A Tommy Hearns Story), and the Minnesota Vikings’ famed defensive line of 1968-1977 (Purple People Eaters). Past projects from the company on the narrative side include the Vans Warped Tour pic Summertime Dropouts, as well as the football drama Under the Stadium Lights, with Laurence Fishburne and Milo Gibson.
