LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. – Firefighters are battling a brush fire that broke out in San Gabriel Canyon Sunday, prompting an evacuation and road closures, Los Angeles County Fire authorities said.
The fire, called the “Bridge Fire,” was reported around 3 p.m. Sunday near the area of East Fork and Glendora Mountain roads. As of Monday morning, the fire had burned 1,255 acres and is 0% contained.
Evacuation Orders
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said an evacuation order is in place for the East Fork communities of Camp Williams Resort (café, mobile home park, campground) and the adjacent river community.
Evacuation Center
An evacuation center has been set up by the American Red Cross at the Hacienda Heights Community Center, located at 1234 Valencia Avenue. For more information, call 1-800-733-2767.
Road Closures
The following road closures are in effect:
- San Gabriel Canyon and the East Fork of the San Gabriel River remains closed to all forest visitors
- Highway 39
- East Fork Road
- Glendora Ridge Road
- Glendora Mountain Road
No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
As a sweltering heat wave continued to bring triple-digit temperatures and dangerous heat to the region, firefighters continued to battle a fast-growing wildfire in San Bernardino County.
