Less than a day after a man was fatally shot in Lemon Grove, a 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, a sheriff’s official said.

The victim, 21-year-old Diego Omar Valera-Trujillo, was shot multiple times around 11:35 p.m. Saturday on School Lane near Central Avenue, officials said. He was taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries.

Around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, detectives arrested Joshua Gonzalez on suspicion of murder on Lincoln Avenue, near his Lemon Grove home. He is being held without bail, according to jail records.

“The detectives worked tirelessly through the night and day, interviewing witnesses and following leads,” which led them to the suspect, Lt. Michael Krugh said in an email. “I don’t believe the suspect and victim knew each other. The incident started over an argument the suspect and victim had just prior to the shooting.”

Krugh did not say what the fight was about.
