Amazon Is Releasing Amazon Saver — a New Budget-Friendly Private Label Food Brand

In April, the Federal Reserve announced that the cost of food across US cities has risen by as much as 25%, with more and more Americans viewing fast food meals — once deemed a cheap and convenient way to get fed — as a “luxury.” In fact, grocery prices have skyrocketed so much, that people have been left with no other choice than to skip meals. The situation has become so concerning on a national level that Vice President Kamala Harris vowed to fight “price gouging” within her first 100 days in office if elected.

So, to ease all that financial burden, Amazon is introducing several new savings opportunities for Prime members who shop at Amazon Fresh, its digital grocery delivery service and in-person chain of cashier-less supermarkets. Today, the Seattle-based retail giant unveiled plans for discounts on more than 3,000 items for Prime members, a new private label focused on budget-friendly grocery products, and an even more streamlined online experience that will make it easier for everyone to shop from home.

While Amazon Fresh has previously offered hundreds of discounts to members, its opportunities for savings are about to expand significantly. One of the steepest markdowns — among the more than 3,000 deals for customers — will involve a rotating list of 8–15 products each week that are up to 50% off. The featured foods aren’t limited to pantry staples, and may also include meat and fresh produce.

This deal joins two other high-volume discounts. Over 1,200 rotating groceries and household products from top brands, only available to Amazon Prime members, will be 25% off.And more than 1,700 items from Amazon private label brands will always be marked down by 10%. These products will bear names you might already be familiar with, like Aplenty, Amazon Fresh, Amazon Kitchen, 365 by Whole Foods Market, Happy Belly, in addition to a new private label — Amazon Saver.

Amazon describes its newest line of edible goods as a “no-frills brand that will help grocery budgets go further.” Amazon Saver will encompass a wide variety of foods, with the parent company calling out that its products will be kitchen staples ranging “from crackers and cookies to canned fruit and condiments,” indicating they know the line will be especially helpful for families with children, who might need to feed more people on a budget. Most importantly, the majority of the Amazon Saver groceries will cost less than $5, and Prime members will receive an additional 10% off.

If affordable prices weren’t already enough, Amazon Fresh is also looking to make it easier for customers to order their groceries online. The company notes that it’s streamlining the experience of grocery shopping through its site, starting with a “repeat items” feature. This will allow patrons to quickly refill their cart with items they’ve purchased before instead of needing to individually search and select them again — and there’s an option to schedule weekly reservations for when you prefer to do grocery pick up or delivery, helping consumers save more time.

Don’t know exactly what items you’re looking to buy? The Amazon Fresh website will enable shopping by “theme” or via digital aisles of similarly grouped products so that customers can peruse the items available and decide what they’re looking for. This will replicate the experience of shopping in person, allowing individuals to simply click from aisle to aisle.

Amazon didn’t specify when all of its new deals, products, and features will precisely be available, but it sounds like some of them already are. The company clarified that they’ve started rolling out some new products online and in stores, and that their marketing team will begin efforts to put their plans in place later this month — so keep an eye out for more savings.
