The Solana Beach Civic and Historical Society celebrated the building of Fletcher Cove 100 years ago at an anniversary event held Sept. 12 at Fletcher Cove Community Center. The Cove was created by the Fletcher family. In 1924, Colonel Ed Fletcher and his wife Mary watched as a steam shovel took the first scoop to open the bluffs and create easier access to the beach below. The Sept. 12 anniversary event included cake and ice cream, and attendees heard from descendants of Ed and Mary Fletcher about the Cove’s namesake.
