LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — Authorities investigate a suspicious fire after a man’s camper and car burnt down in Lehigh Acres Sunday.
The fire happened at the end of the Culdesac on Inspiration Court just before 3 pm.
The Lehigh Acres Fire Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and State Fire Marshal responded and were on scene investigating through 8 pm.
The camper was Raul Alayon’s home. His car is now gone too. Alayon lost almost everything he had in the fire. The only clothes he has left are the ones he was wearing at the time of the fire.
“My car got burned down, everything. Everything, I mean my clothes, my money, everything that I had, is burnt down in there,” said Alayon.
Alayon is grateful that he wasn’t home when the fire started, but he said he is very upset and doesn’t know what he will do.
“I don’t have anywhere to go right now. All my family is in Miami. I’ve been here for 11 years in Lehigh,” said Alayon.
Alayon had his father’s pigeons inside the home.
“My pigeons died. Thank god my dog was able to get away, and I’ve gotta go pick her up,” said Alayon.
According to the State Fire Marshal, this would be a lengthy investigation and they believed the fire to be suspicious.
Alayon believes that somebody burned down his home. He hopes footage from his security camera will help catch the person who did this.
He explained that this used to be a hangout spot for the kids that ride bikes and dirt bikes.
“I know for a fact somebody did this.” “Young kids come out here taunting me, throwing rocks, making noises stealing stuff.” “I guess they didn’t like me being here,” stated Alayon.
