Escondido residents on edge after battery fires, evacuations – San Diego Union-Tribune

Re “With more lithium-ion batteries comes more fire risk. San Diego now has an expert for that” (Sept. 22): Considering the lithium battery fires in Otay Mesa and Escondido, they are deadly, toxic, unstable sources of power. Being an Escondido resident, after the mass evacuations, I believe locating these plants near schools and resident areas is not a good idea. I for one will never buy an electric vehicle car powered by them. Sitting on a pile of these volatile batteries is problematic at best, deadly at worse.
