CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A four-car crash sparked a fire at the intersection of Pine Island Road and Del Prado Boulevard on Friday night.

Around 5:30 p.m. the Cape Coral Fire Department responded to a multiple-car crash that caused three vehicles to catch on fire.

Spencer Crutchley was leaving Lowe’s when he heard a big crash on Pine Island Road near Del Prado Boulevard.

“I saw four cars involved in the accident,” he said.

That’s when the skills from his old job kicked in. He use to direct traffic at Disney World.

“So I ran across the road and started assisting, you know, making sure that the traffic had stopped so people involved in the accident were able to get to the other side of the road,” said Crutchley.

Then Crutchley saw flames. The crash sparked a fire, leaving one car completely torched. Crutchley said the Cape Coral Fire Department, Cape Coral Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the crash in minutes. He said he heard a deputy say one of the cars was filled with live ammunition, “So we backed the cars up even further until more traffic control got up here and then we cut off the road completely,” he said.

ABC7 met a couple who was in the crash. They did not want to be on camera, but told us they were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. The Cape Coral Fire Department said the rest of the victims were treated on the scene.

Crutchley hopes they are all okay. He said everyone really came together to help.

“It was unbelievable how well everybody worked together until they did respond. I mean even the motorists were patient. No beeping their horns or anything like that so it was very impressive.

Some people, however, are just hard to impress. Crutchley’s son works at the Steak N’ Shake across the street.

“He saw me directing traffic and he was like ‘of course my dad is involved in this!’”

According to the Cape Coral Fire Department, the State Department of Transportation was notified to inspect the roadway.
