‘California Here We Come’ concert Oct. 19

The 75-member Coastal Communities Concert Band will present a concert, “California Here We Come,” at 2 p.m. Oct. 19 at Carlsbad Community Church, 3175 Harding St. The concert celebrates the history, beauty and spirit of California and will feature music by Tony Bennett, the Beach Boys, John Williams and the Mamas and Papas, among others. Haunted Corn Maze opens

A Haunted Corn Maze is open from 7 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 2 at the Carlsbad Strawberry Fields, 1050 Cannon Road, hosted by the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation. Admission is $25, plus $12 entry to the Strawberry Fields; VIP entry, $45. (Not intended for children younger than 12.) Proceeds go to the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation’s educational programs. Altrusa runs Socktober donation drive

The Altrusa International of Southern CA Virtual Club holds its second Socktober donation drive to collect 1,500 pairs of socks for low-income and homeless students in the South Bay, including National City sixth graders going to camp and students from San Ysidro Middle School, MAAC Community Charter and Chula Vista Elementary School District. Gala to benefit domestic violence victims

San Diego-based nonprofit Confronting Domestic Violence hosts a gala themed “A Taste of Old Hollywood” from 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 27 to raise money for the nonprofit to provide relocation services for domestic violence victims and their children. The event includes Mediterranean cuisine, a live band, a cash bar, speakers, a silent auction and raffles. Harvest Festival at fairgrounds

Church choir recruiting singers

Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church is recruiting singers to join its choir for the annual Christmas Concert as part of its concert series. The event raises funds for Home Start’s programs that help children, families and individuals in need. Salute to Paws 5K and festival

Locally based nonprofit Shelter to Soldier will put on its inaugural Salute to Paws 5K and Gratitude Festival for Dogs starting at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 16 at Naval Training Center Park in Liberty Station, 2455 Cushing Road. Proceeds go to the nonprofit, which rescues dogs from local shelters and trains them to become service animals for post-9/11 veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, among other injuries. Free museum admission for kids

The San Diego Museum Council runs the Kids Free San Diego program through Oct. 31. Children ages 12 and younger can get free admission with a paid adult to more than 50 museums, aquariums, zoos, gardens, state parks, historic sites and other family-friendly attractions throughout San Diego County, ranging from the USS Midway Museum and Fleet Science Center to Birch Aquarium and San Diego Air & Space Museum, Some locations are free for the entire family or offer pay-what-you-wish admission year-round. Antique buffs gather for program

El Camino Real Questers will meet at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Lake San Marcos Clubroom, 1105 La Bonita Drive. The program will be “Keepsake Memory Roadshow.” Questers is an international group that fosters an appreciation of antiques and collectibles, and encourages the preservation of historical sites. The chapter meets on the second Monday of the month, except in summer. Visitors are welcome.

Program features Latin American music

California State University San Marcos’ Arts and Lectures Program will host a musical program, Musica Latina, with composer Andres Martin and music group Camarada at noon Oct. 15 in the Arts Performance Hall, 333 S. Twin Oaks Valley Road. Camarada is a San Diego-based musical group hosting various musicians and composers with a focus on Latin American and Spanish music along with experimentation with different genres, songs and instruments. Admission is free for students, staff and faculty, and $5 for the public. Tours of Hubbell’s art this month

The Ilan-Lael Foundation holds fall tours of the creations of the late visionary artist and architect James Hubbell on the first three Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays of October, with tour times at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Visitors can view the sculptures and garden at Ilan-Lael and get insights into Hubbell’s artistic process and the foundation’s mission of promoting art, nature and community through various projects, including the Watershed Explorers program, student tours and workshops. Brews & Bites Festival

Santee Brews & Bites Festival Fundraiser is from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Town Center Community Park East, 550 Park Center Drive. The Fast Times band will headline the entertainment. Antique engines and tractors featured at show

The Antique Engine and Tractor Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 19-20 and Oct. 26-27 at the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum, 2040 N. Santa Fe Ave. The show features dozens of antique engines and tractors, each with a story. Visitors can browse through the displays of antiques, meet the owners and view live demonstrations of engines and tractors in action. There will also be tractor driving, milking demonstrations, a petting zoo, hayrides and vendors. Admission is $10; members, $9; and free for kids 6 and younger. Vista Garden Club to hold fundraiser

The Vista Garden Club will host its annual Fall Fundraiser to raise money for scholarships at 11 a.m. Nov. 2 at the Park Terrace Cafe in Brengle Terrace Park, 1400 Vale Terrace Drive. Assistance League supports military kids

The Assistance League North Coast holds an informational meeting for retirees at 9 a.m. Oct. 24 at Shadowridge Golf Club, 1980 Gateway Drive. The guest speaker will be Samantha Holt, executive director of the Armed Services YMCA. Holt will talk about Chapters for Children, an Assistance League program that provides new clothing to children of active-duty military members based at Camp Pendleton as a way of saying thank you to the families.
