The Coastal Communities Concert Band (CCCB), will present a concert titled “California Here We Come” on Saturday, Oct.19, at 2 p.m. at the Carlsbad Community Church, 3175 Harding Street, Carlsbad. Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors. Students are admitted free. Tickets are available at the door, online at www.cccband.com or by calling (760) 415-6099.
The concert celebrates the beauty, history and spirit of California. It will feature iconic pieces by artists such as Tony Bennett, the Beach Boys, John Williams and the Mamas and Papas. Also included are descriptive works, such as “Sixty-Six,” “Gold Rush!,” “Seal Lullaby” and “Cable Car.” A highlight will be the premier of the CCCB’s recent commission by Sean O’Loughlin titled, “Coastal Visions.”
The concert will include guest pianist Dr. Joseph Valent, and three guest conductors: Vince Hernandez, Dr. Bruce Mansfield and Jennifer Baker. Baker’s daughter, Katie, will be featured as vocalist with a La La Land medley.
The Coastal Communities Concert Band, based in Encinitas, is an award-winning symphonic band of more than 75 musicians who live throughout San Diego County. The CCCB is under the direction of Tom Cole who was a music educator in the Poway Unified School District for 35 years, serving as the band director at Mt. Carmel High School and Rancho Bernardo High School. The band, which celebrated its 41st anniversary in 2024, has a rich history of travel, guest conductors and soloists, commissions and community support, according to a news release.
CCCB, under the auspices of MiraCosta College, is supported and operated by the Coastal Communities Concert Band Foundation, a nonprofit 501c3 corporation.
