Four Bay Area restaurants are among 10 California businesses that made the Bib Gourmand list on Tuesday.
The local additions were San Francisco restaurant Bansang, Oakland restaurants Bombera and Snail Bar, and San Jose restaurant Petiscos. All 10 California restaurants that earned Bib Gourmand status Tuesday were also new to the list.
Michelin celebrated the Bay Area restaurants for quality dishes at affordable prices. Bansang was highlighted for its contemporary Korean dishes, while Petiscos was honored for its Portuguese home-style cooking. Michelin said Snail Bar boasted “some of Oakland’s most exciting and well-crafted cooking.”
“Chef Andres Giraldo Florez has worked in some of the world’s loftiest kitchens, and although the vibe here is unfussy, his fine dining chops are evident in every precise, flavorful dish,” Michelin wrote of Snail Bar.
Of the restaurants featured on the Bib Gourmand list, Bombera has the most to celebrate. In May, chef Dominica Rice-Cisneros’ Mexican restaurant was among 19 Bay Area restaurants added to the Michelin Guide’s California list. Rice-Cisneros was credited for helping “shape Oakland’s current Mexican restaurant scene” in the Bib Gourmand honor.
The Bib Gourmand announcement comes a week before California’s Michelin star event on July 18. The private ceremony, which will be hosted at Chabot Space & Science Center in Oakland, honors California restaurants that earn the prestigious award.
