FC Barcelona signing Vitor Roque’s value could rise to an alarming €200 million ($225 million) according to the teenager’s agent Andre Cury.

The 18-year-old signed for Barca from Atheltico Paranaense this week as announced by the La Liga club.

The deal will see the Catalans pay Vitor Roque’s current Brazilian employers €30 million ($34 million) in fixed money plus another €31 million ($35 million) in variables if a series of objectives are met according to Mundo Deportivo.

The final price of the transfer came as a surprise to many.

In late June, the same daily newspaper reported that an agreement in principle was struck for €35 million ($39 million) plus €10 million ($11.2 million) in add-ons.

This equalled a potential total of €45 million ($50.5 million), and not the now widely-believed €61 million ($68.5 million).

In an interview with MD‘s rival publication SPORT in Sao Paulo this weekend, Vitor Roque’s agent Cury was asked if there had been inflation in the transfer.

“There was always talk of a fixed [amount] between €30 and €35 million,” Barca’s former eyes in Brazil explained.

“In every negotiation there are many changes. Other clubs appear, here were the English,” he added, in reference to Premier

League interest in his client.

“In the end, the fixed [amount] was lowered and the variables were raised… This was decided between the two clubs. [Barca sporting director] Deco and [Barca director of football] Mateu [Alemany] reached a consensus with Athletico Paranaense.”

Even though Barca have ended up potentially shelling out more, however, Cury still thinks they have pulled off a “spectacular opertion”.

“Because if you end up paying all the bonuses it means that the player has had a splendid performance and that his price then rises to €200 million ($225 million) euros,” Cury boldly predicted.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the add-ons will be paid according to criteria such as Vitor Roque playing 60% of Barca matches as a starter, scoring a certain amount of goals, winning titles in Blaugrana, and clinching the Ballon d’Or.

If all these objectives are reached – especially when it comes to him scooping football’s highest individual accolade – it is possible that Vitor Roque will indeed be worth what Cury thinks he could fetch one day.

Though Vitor Roque will not join Barca until 2024, he has a long-term contract until the 2030/2031 season and therefore has some seven years to reach the lofty heights expected of him.

Around 26 by then, he might not have even reached his peak while most likely in a direct generational battle with fellow Brazilian Endrick who will join Barca’s bitter rivals Real Madrid from Palmeiras next summer.

Unsurprisingly, Cury is firm on who he thinks is the better prodigy.

“If you ask me who has made a better signing Barca or Madrid, it’s very clear. I have already said it in other interviews and I reiterate it again. In my opinion, Vitor is above Endrick,” Cury stated.
