Forecast: Back to normal rain pattern by Thursday

With a ridge of high pressure, or fair weather, centered in the central Gulf of Mexico, our weather will continue to be just a little abnormal here in Southwest Florida. It will also continue to be very muggy, with “feels like” temperatures climbing to 105º-110º in the afternoon the next few days.

The onshore wind, due to the ridge, will also wash developing showers from the Gulf of Mexico to the beaches in the morning hours, the urban corridor during the midday and the inland areas east of I-75 in the afternoon and early evening. We’ll then see a few late-night showers work back to the beaches.

The same weather pattern holds for Wednesday. A little more sunshine should pop through the clouds, so expect even warmer temperatures with highs a little closer to 95º and “feels like” temperatures near 110º. By Thursday, the ridge weakens and moves a little farther west allowing for the easterlies — albeit weak easterlies, to set up. That will bring us our normal “morning sun, afternoon storms” weather pattern back to SWFL.

Tracking the Tropics:

Tropical Storm Don is the only thing in the Atlantic Basin. It will swirl around the North Atlantic over the next several days and not be a bother to anyone except mariners. No other areas are expected to develop through the next week.
