Parts of Cape Coral got between 2 and 3 inches of rain Wednesday afternoon as another thunderstorm popped up and sat in North Fort Myers, then weakened and spread all the way to Pine Island, Lehigh Acres and even up to Port Charlotte and Arcadia. This rain also helped cool that particular region with feels-like temperatures in the mid-80s, which is much more refreshing than the 100º to 105º range for areas that did not get rain.
Naples and Fort Myers put fresh ink on the record high-temperature section of the record book Wednesday. 97º was the high in Fort Myers, with 96º at Naples Wednesday. It will be very similar on Thursday, with hot temperatures and some cooling rain and thunderstorm activity in the afternoon and early evening. Expect highs near 95º with feels-like temperatures in the 105º to 110º range.
Rain coverage will be 60% on Thursday, 50% on Friday and down to 30% over the weekend.
Tracking the Tropics:
Tropical Storm Don is in the Atlantic still, at 45 mph. It will get a little stronger but not affect any land areas.
A second area of interest is a tropical wave not too far from the coast of Africa. It has a low chance of development over the next 7 days. We’ll keep an eye on it, as it is currently aimed for the Caribbean Sea.
