Andrew Rannells attended the 2015 Golden Globes as the guest of his Girls co-star Lena Dunham, who was nominated for her work on the HBO show.

The 44-year-old actor revealed in a new interview that he was removed from the Girls table and forced to sit at a different table, next to some A-List celebs who seemed confused by his placement at their table.

“They told me as I arrived that, um, that Richard Plepler, who was at the time the, you know, head of HBO, had decided at the last moment to bring his wife, which is lovely, but it meant there was no seat for me at the table anymore,” Andrew said on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show.

He added, “So they bumped me and they put me at the Foxcatcher table.”

Foxcatcher was up for Best Picture – Drama and acting awards for Steve Carrell and Mark Ruffalo.

“Foxcatcher, a film I was not in but did watch, so that was great. So I had seen it, but it was me and the cast of Foxcatcher. And, um, I had no business being at that table. But I certainly, you know, by the end of the evening, I had firmly inserted myself into that crew. And I was like, then I started thinking, I was like, ‘Well, maybe people will think I was in it,’” Andrew said.

Andrew revealed how he was seated next to Mark, who was nominated twice that night.

“I got nervous and I didn’t really know Mark Ruffalo, but I thought he was really nice and cool. And I just became like, in my mind, we were best friends until, which is the story I’ll just tell you now. So he was his, both of his categories were back to back, which is crazy. So he was nominated for The Normal Heart, and then he was nominated for Foxcatcher. And you know, he unfortunately did not win for The Normal Heart. And then the next award up, it was him and Foxcatcher. And he looked at me and he said, ‘It’s happening too quickly.’ And I was like, ah, that little angel baby. I just love him so much. And then unfortunately, again, he did not win, and I thought it was within my right,” Andrew continued. “As his new best friend. I rubbed his back. I very gently rubbed his back. And I didn’t really think much of it until Allison Williams said to me during a commercial break, ‘Did you rub his back when he lost?’ I said, ‘I did. I did.’”

Andrew said that Foxcatcher actress Sienna Miller didn’t want to sit next to him.

“Um, not everyone [was nice to me]. Not everyone. I mean, and not, not nice, just maybe a little confused. And when I sat down, I was seated, you know, Mark Ruffalo was on my left, Sienna Miller was on my right. Sienna Miller sort of took me in as like, ‘What the hell is happening?’ I explained, ‘I’m on this TV show called Girls. I have been bumped from my table, I’m now seated with you.’ She sort of whispered something to her friend and they switched seats,” Andrew said. “But then, I made it my mission to become her friend’s best friend. And by the end of the night we were like, ‘Ha ha ha ha’ was like, yucking it up. And Sienna Miller said, she was like, ‘I feel like I’m missing out.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, you did miss out.’ Yeah, you did, you did miss out. You did miss out.”
