Legendary pop punk band Paramore canceled their highly anticipated concert at San Francisco’s Chase Center on Saturday night, less than two hours before they were slated to play.

In a statement shared on Twitter at 5:19 p.m., the band cited “sickness within the touring party” and said the show would be rescheduled for Monday, August 7. Previously purchased tickets will be honored at the upcoming gig.

“If you cannot attend the rescheduled date and would like a refund, instructions will be sent out to all ticket purchasers and refunds will be offered for the next 7 days,” the band said in the statement. “We look forward to seeing you all soon at the next Paramore show.”

Paramore kicked off their 26-city tour in Charlotte, North Carolina this spring — their longest since their five-year hiatus. When the award-winning band — vocalist Hayley Williams, guitarist Taylor York and drummer Zac Farro — announced they were recording songs again in January 2022 for their latest record, “This is Why,” the response from fans was rapturous. Their 2007 record “Riot!” cemented the band in the emo canon with hits like “Misery Business” and “That’s What You Get,” while more recent records like 2017’s “After Laughter” veered into new wave territory, drawing inspiration from Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club. Their pop rock anthem “Ain’t it Fun” from their 2013 self-titled record won a Grammy for Best Rock Song in 2015.

Pop stars Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Demi Lovato and Billie Eilish count themselves among the many fans of the band, and Eilish joined them onstage for a surprise performance of “All I Wanted” from their 2009 album “Brand New Eyes” during their encore at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum last week, citing the single as her “all-time favorite” of the band’s.

British indie rock band Foals was scheduled to open for Paramore on Saturday night. Fans were disheartened by the news of the cancellation, with some saying they were stuck in traffic or had been driving for hours when they learned about it. Some of them had camped overnight just to see the show.

Still, their dedication didn’t waver. “Thank you for putting people’s health and safety first,” one fan wrote. “I WILL CAMP FOR YOU GUYS AGAIN,” another said.
