The Philz Coffee at 3101 24th St., San Francisco, is closing.
Sharon I. via YelpThe original Philz Coffee on 24th and Folsom streets in the Mission District is closing, as first reported by Mission Local.
The coffee chain, which now has more than 60 locations across California and the Chicago area, opened its original San Francisco location in 2003. Philz Coffee is known for its pour-over coffee and specialty drinks like the iced mint mojito coffee.
“We have loved serving the Mission District community over the past 20 years,” the company told the San Francisco Standard in an emailed statement. “After a long and fulfilling journey, our lease ended and we have made the difficult decision not to renew.”
The store’s final day will be Oct. 16, and all eligible employees will be offered positions at other San Francisco locations, according to the Standard. SFGATE could not reach Philz for comment in time for publication.
The 24th Street store was formerly a liquor store owned by Phil Jaber, the coffee chain’s founder. His son, Jacob Jaber, is the current CEO.
Back in 2018, Philz Coffee also closed its first East Bay location, which had operated on Shattuck Avenue in North Berkeley since 2008. In the past few years, the company also opened a 48,000-square-foot roasting facility in Oakland.
