CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — A Charlotte County family is devastated after their pet cows were attacked in the middle of the night.
The family lives out on more than 100 acres of land down Bermont Road. It’s a desolate area, definitely not a place someone randomly just shows up at.
On July 19, just after one in the morning, the homeowner woke up to the sound of gunfire. She ran outside, where she found several of her cows shot. Four ultimately died. Others are still injured.
“To intentionally go by her property and shoot her animals, for no benefit, is just wrong, and somebody needs to go to jail for that,” Trish Routte said, crime stoppers coordinator.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $3,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. The owners are offering an additional $10,000 per person that is arrested and convicted.
Routte said someone out there knows something and needs to come forward.
“Somebody that’s going to go out there and fire a gun on somebody’s property and shoot their animals, they don’t deserve your protection,” Routte said.
