FORT MYERS, Fla. — Students across Southwest Florida started a new school year on Thursday with a warm welcome.

Dozens of United Way volunteers joined local businesses and community leaders this morning to welcome students back with big smiles, handshakes, high fives, dance moves, and sweet treats.

The volunteers visited three United Way Community Partnership Schools in Fort Myers – Franklin Park Elementary, Colonial Elementary, and Fort Myers Middle Academy.

These pep rallies have become a first-day tradition to show community support for the students and staff members.
