CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. — A beloved Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office (CCS0) K-9 died Sunday from gastric dilatation.
K-9 Copper was rushed to the vet by his partner for emergency surgery. However, Copper died while recovering, according to CCSO.
Copper joined CCSO in 2020 and was partnered with Cpl. Steven Sella.

According to a CCSO tribute video, Copper helped locate 24 missing people during his three years with the sheriff’s office.
Copper’s fame grew even more after he won Florida’s deputy dog ‘March Madness’ tournament back in April, racking up more than 167,000 votes.
CCSO thanked the community for the loved they shared for Copper and his service.
