Forecast: Not as hot Wednesday

We set a record high temperature at Naples Tuesday afternoon. It was really hot! The Naples Airport reached 97º, breaking the old record of 96º from 1979. Fort Myers reached 96º at Page Field, which was certainly hot but not hot enough to break the record of 98º from 1995.

Heading into the overnight, evening showers and storms along the seabreeze boundary will help cool some of us off. Those that get rain can expect the “feels like” temperatures to drop from near 110º down into the mid-80s. Quite a difference!

A cold front that will get to the Georgia/Florida border, coupled with tropical moisture being drawn into Florida from the southeast, will bring us a cloudier and rainier Wednesday and Thursday. That also means temperatures that aren’t as hot. Instead of the mid to upper 90s, we will top off in the low 90s, which is seasonal. Our average high for August 16th is 92º.

It won’t rain the entire day Wednesday or Thursday, but the chance for rain arrives in the morning. We should get an early afternoon break before round 2, late afternoon into the evening.

Tracking the Tropics:

We are still tracking two tropical waves deep in the Atlantic. A tropical wave is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms a few hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Development, if any, of this system should be slow to occur while it moves west-northwestward at about 15 mph across the tropical Atlantic through the end of the week.

A second tropical wave is forecast to move off the west coast of Africa tonight or early Wednesday. Some slow development of this system is possible later this week or over the weekend while it moves northwestward across the eastern Atlantic. Environmental conditions are expected to become unfavorable for development by early next week.
