CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The City of Cape Coral could be making a major change when it comes to your trash.
Waste Pro’s contract will expire with the City in 2027. Now city council is trying to decide if they should re-sign with Waste Pro, find another company, or have the City take over trash pickups.
“There’s two variables: cost and service. We have to figure out what the cost is and if we can provide better service in-house,” Mayor John Gunter told ABC7.
The City has had a rocky relationship with the company. Waste Pro sued Cape Coral after the City fined them for missing bulk trash pick-ups. The lawsuit was dropped.

Mayor John Gunter said he wants to see more data before making a decision. He hopes City Hall can come to a resolution in six months.
