FORT MYERS, Fla. — Hodges University is closing down after 33 years of providing education in Southwest Florida.

The president of the university, Charlene Wendel, said in a news release on the school’s website that the closure is coming due to declining enrollment numbers and financial challenges.

Hodges University decided to not enroll any students for September 2023.

The university in Fort Myers is looking to stop the operations of a majority of its degree offerings at the end of April 2024. According to the news release, limited classes will be offered through August 2024.

Wendel said in the press release that the university is working to help students explore transfer options. Students who will not be able to complete their degree at Hodges are advised to its planning team.

Hodges University was founded in 1990 as International College before changing to its current name in 2007. The university changed its name to honor Earl and Thelma Hodges, the school’s benefactors.
