SWFL — As Hurricane Idalia approached the Florida Big Bend early Wednesday, it left severe flooding in Southwest Florida counties.

Charlotte County experienced a high tide, storm surge, and severe storms. Some areas in Punta Gorda saw water up to 2 ft. Flooding also caused the U.S. 41 bridges to close in the area.

Beach Road at Blind Pass in Charlotte County is washed out and the beach causeway is currently closed.

A picture shared in our newsroom shows an erosion on Sandpiper Key.

Our viewers shared their experiences of Hurricane Idalia since Tuesday, Aug. 29, as water slowly made its way into the roads of Naples, Sanibel Island, and Fort Myers Beach.

Many of our coastal communities experienced flooding and storm surges. View the images and videos below.

At this time, a tropical storm warning is still in effect. Some powerlines are down and authorities are asking the public to be cautious.
