COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies saved the life of a man who suffered a heart attack at the Naples High School football game Friday night.

A 75-year-old man had fallen and went into cardiac arrest around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 1.

Youth Relations Deputy Kevin Havel and Sgt. Chris Solomon with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) were on duty that night and heard the school principal shout for an ambulance.

According to CCSO, Deputy Havel ran over to find the man lying on his side on the ground. After rolling the man onto his back, Deputy Havel noticed his breathing was irregular and began to administer CPR.

At the same time, Sgt. Solomon got his agency-issued automated external defibrillator (AED) from the car.

Youth Relations Cpl. Katina Henderson and Naples Police Officer Matthew Blomquist helped Sgt. Solomon start chest compressions.

Sgt. Solomon delivered two shocks to the man with the AED pads.

Each deputy continued providing life-saving measures until paramedics arrived on the scene and transported the man to a local hospital.

Sgt. Solomon, Deputy Havel, Cpl. Henderson and Officer Blomquist will all be nominated for a CCSO Life Saving Award, which honors deputies who render life-sustaining rescue efforts to a person whose life is in immediate jeopardy.
