The timing is excellent. Interest in art by women, most of them neglected, underestimated and ruthlessly written out of art history, is at an all-time high. The National Museum for Women in the Arts in Washington is set to reopen after a two-year renovation of its beautiful historic building. In recent times, the museum’s collection has dramatically expanded. It features work by, among hundreds, Marguerite Gérard, Rosa Bonheur, Berthe Morisot, Cecilia Beaux, Suzanne Valadon, Anni Albers, Barbara Hepworth and Mickalene Thomas.
